Logan is situated in a valley surrounded by the majestic Wasatch mountain range in Cache County, Utah, roughly 85 miles north of Salt Lake City. As of 2014, Logan’s population was at 47,970. The population has grown 11% since 2000.

Living in Logan

Logan offers abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, including water and snow skiing, hiking, cycling, camping, kayaking, climbing, and snowmobiling. Logan is not far from Bear Lake, often called the Caribbean of the Rockies for its intense turquoise-blue water. Cache Valley hosts several large annual events, like the Top of Utah Marathon, Cache Valley Cruise-In Car Show, the Utah Festival Opera Company, and the Festival of the American West.

Logan has a wide variety of economic sectors with a focus on education, manufacturing and processing, medical services, agriculture, and retail businesses. The city’s largest employer is Utah State University, with other major employers including Icon Health & Fitness, Cache County School District, Logan Regional Hospital, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Gossner Foods, and Schreiber Foods. The unemployment rate in Logan is 2.6%, well below the national average.

Education in Logan 

Founded in 1888, the Utah State University (USU) main campus is a four-year public university with more than 24,000 students, located on a 400-acre site overlooking Cache Valley. Typically, 80 countries and every state in the nation are represented in the student body each year. Utah State University is a Carnegie Research I university, a distinction held by only three percent (3%) of institutions nation wide. USU has 45 departments in eight academic colleges. The university and its students support a full complement of competitive athletic programs in the Mountain West Conference. USU’s scholar athletes hold a higher average GPA than the general student body and enjoy a respectable athlete graduation rate of 57 percent.
